An atypical route of 1000 Km down from the Capital Antananarivo to Tulear, a must for a first discovery approach to Madagascar, bringing together fabulous landscapes and varied peoples, passing through the Spa town of Antsirabe and its colorful “pousse-pousse”, the National Park of Ranomafana and its Golden Bamboo lemurs, Tsaranoro valley which lies at the foot of the Andringitra mountains, the magnificent Isalo National Park that looks like a Grand Canyon. 

At the end of the route, relax on the idyllic beach of Ifaty ( or Anakao, Salary,Tsiandamba or Ambatomilo ).

Day 1 : Arrival in Antananarivo

Arrival at Ivato International airport from your international flight. Welcome and transfer to your hotel.


Day 2 : Antananarivo – Antsirabe

Early departure to Antsirabe ( 170 Km / 3 h ).

Beautiful city of the Highlands of Madagascar, Antsirabe is the result of mixed cultures that built the city for two centuries. The city reflects the warmth of its people and the authenticity of its traditions still alive in the surrounding countryside. Famed for its “pousse pousse”, gemstones and handicrafts, the wide tree-lined avenues invite you to discover its workshops where people work on transforming natural materials like zebu horn (for cutlery) or wheat straw. (for hats).

Day 3 : Antsirabe – Ranomafana

Drive to Ranomafana ( 230 Km / 5h30 ), which means “ warm waters”, known for its hot springs. 

Stop on the way in Ambositra to visit handicrafts markets.  Ambositra is a small town known for its Zafimaniry wood carvings and handicraft. The Zafimaniry people are known for the typical wooden architecture of their houses and fine ancestral wood carving art. Their culture and lands are classified UNESCO World Heritage.

Arrival in Ranomafana in the evening, lodging at your hotel.


Day 4 : Ranomafana National Park

This morning  will be dedicated to visiting the natural reserve of Ranomafana. We recommend waking up early for the morning walk in Ranomafana Park, as it is the best time for animal observation.

Ranomafana National Park is full of originality and variety. Botany, ornithology, herpetology, cultures are fascinating attractions which captivate you in this tropical rainforest. Flora and fauna are among the most varied while being unique.

In the afternoon, visit the village with its hot spring and night walk inside the NP to spot nocturnal lemurs and frogs and if lucky, fossas, the only endemic carnivorous species of Madagascar.

Day 5 : Ranomafana – Tsaranoro valley

After an early breakfast, drive to Tsaranoro valley ( 182 Km / 6h ), with a stop in Ambalavao to visit handmade “Antaimoro” craftshop. Possibility to visit the private reserve “Anjah”, an interesting park for the close encounters with the ring-tailed lemurs and its Betsileo traditional tombs.

Day 6 : Tsaranoro valley – Ranohira

Morning dedicated to a walk inside Tsaranoro valley. Several guided walks in the beautiful reddish mountains can be organised, from easy walks that will take you in a sacred forest inhabited by catta lemurs, to a waterfall, a natural swimming pool and nearby Barabory villages, to more sporty walks that will bring you all the way up to Mount Chameleon!

After lunch, drive ahead to Ranohira ( 225 Km / 4h ).

Day 7 : Isalo National Park

Today is dedicated to discovering the NP of Isalo, our malagasy colorado. Covering an area of 81,540 hectares, Isalo National Park comprises the entire stretch of the Isalo Massif, a very spectacular mountain chain made up of eroded sandstone. This strikingly beautiful reserve is filled with golden plains punctuated by craggy pinnacles of terracotta rock, valleys, canyons and waterfalls and we enjoy two half-day hikes in this surreal environment. In the morning we will walk to the Canyon of Lemurs, and in the afternoon to a natural swimming pool in an oasis-like setting.

Day 8 : Ranohira – Tulear – Ifaty

After breakfast, drive till Tulear ( 243 Km / 4h ).

Southern capital of Madagascar, known as « the white city » or « sun city », Tulear is a mosaic of ethnicities and cultures under the banner of the smile and the sun. The city offers thousand bright colors, a concert of rhythmic ambience made  by the Tsapiky music which, surging through the streets, makes the sensuality and the gentleness of its inhabitants.

After lunch, Transfer to Ifaty, a fishermen village 25 Km north of Tulear.

Day 9 & Day 10 : Beach stay in Ifaty

Days at leisure in Ifaty where several activities can be organised on spot through your hotel, such as : Visit the private reserve Reniala and its baobab forest, boat or canöe expedition, swimming, snorkelling, diving, VTT, quad,…

Day 11 : Ifaty – Tulear – Tana

Transfer to Tuléar-airport ( 1h30 ), and fly back to Tana.

Meet and transfer to your hotel.


Day 12 : Antananarivo – Fly OUT

Transfer to Ivato international airport for your international return flight.

 N.B : Instead of Ifaty, you can choose another idyllic beach, like Anakao, Salary,Tsiandamba or Ambatomilo.
