Adventure and fishing in the northern area

This tour is focused on the region of Antsiranana, also known as Diego-Suarez, a port city in northern Madagascar. It is the last country of northern Madagascar before the sea.

When we think about Diego Suarez, we think of his many varied coasts, this meeting between two seas, the Indian Ocean and the Mozambique Channel, which makes our waters so full of fish.

But there is another Diego Suarez, secret, that of the interior, completely preserved, with its parks, its reserves, its villages and its people, which are worth to be known.

So, this tour is designed for nature lovers looking for authenticity and discovery, and who want to combine adventure and sport fishing in the waters of Diego Suarez, relaxation and well-being.

Best season for fishing :

• – East Coast : 1st of December to 31st of March
• – West Coast : 1st of April to 31st of May, 1st of October to 30th of November
• – Closed fishing season : June to September, unfavorable weather

Jacks, red carp, napoleon, barracuda, jobfish, rays, sharks, groupers, wahoo, dog tuna, dolphinfish, sailfish, marlin, etc.

Day 1 : Arrival in Antananarivo

Arrival at Ivato International airport from your international flight. Welcome and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2 : Antananarivo – Diego Suarez – Montagne d’Ambre

Fly from Antananarivo to Diego Suarez, at the extreme north of the island. 

Short car trip south of Diego, crossing Joffreville (an historical town  characterized by its European architecture) to visit Natural Park of Montagne d’Ambre ( 25 Km ), which is a high place of endemicity with 77 species of birds, 7 species of lemurs and 24 species of amphibians. 1020 plant species are also listed.

Day 3 : Montagne d’Ambre – Ankarana

4h drive to reach Ankarana special reserve, located about 100km from Diego Suarez.  Tsingy (these limestone pinnacles of impressive appearance ), sacred lake, botanic trail, canyons, caves with stalactites and stalagmites, bats and crocodiles, make its singularity. It is the largest underground network in Africa. It is a park of great adventures between wild and mystical nature.

Day 4 : Ankarana Special Reserve

Fullday dedicated to discover the SR of Ankarana : walk through the limestone formations called ‘Tsingy’ which characterize this reserve; visit caves  surrounded by dry deciduous trees such as Baobabs and Elephant foot plant, home to the crowned lemurs, the ring-tailed mongoose and the northern sportive lemurs.

Day 5 : Ankarana – Tsingy rouge – Diego Suarez

Drive back to Diego Suarez, with a detour to visit the “Tsingy rouges” or “red Tsingy” ( about 50Km from Diego/1h30 ), which provide a wonderful spectacle of color and sculpture. The sandy track threading between the palm trees « satrana » is not easily accessible but the brightness of tsingy, hidden treasures, well worth the trip! Shaped by wind and rain, made of colourful laterite soil, right at the feet of eroded canyons, their balance is fragile.

Day 6 to Day 12 : Fishing trip aboard catamaran

From here, we offer a fishing trip of 8 days / 7 nights, off Diego Suarez, with accommodation aboard catamaran.

• Advantages

This type of stay allows to go fishing in the most remote areas, the banks and shoals

offshore : to the North East or North West the famous Cap d’Ambre, to the South East Ankao Islands or others heavenly places, in the South West the famous Cap Saint Sebastian according to your choice and season.

Thus we can be in the morning at dawn on hot spots almost virgin and can have a nice extra amplitude of 3 hours of fishing. This stay avoids tiring daily trips.

Anchorage can be done according to weather, on sandbanks, in the bays or behind islands sheltered.

• Onboard catamaran

On board 4 double cabins can be shared, from 1 to 6 people (wives or fishermen), but beyond 5 fishermen a second fishing boat will have to be chartered.

Day 13 : Last day of fishing trip – Diego Suarez

Today is our last day of fishing, going back towards Diego Suarez.

Day 14 : Diego Suarez – Antananarivo

According to the flight schedule, transfer to Diego Suarez airport and fly back to Tana. If time allows it, short city of Tana, shopping  last souvenirs at the handicrafts markets.

Day 15 : Antananarivo – Fly OUT

Transfer to Ivato international airport for your international return flight.
